Buxted Horticultural Society was founded in 1870 and retains a certain old fashioned charm of the true village society, bringing together both amateur gardeners, seasoned experts and ‘have a go’ members of the local community to exhibit their blooms, pot plants, fruit and vegetables, flower arrangements, photographs and domestic/baking skills.

The following is a typical schedule of shows that are all currently held in The Reading Room, Church Road, Buxted.

AGM – March

Spring Show – April

Plant Sale [bring & buy] & Coffee morning– May

Summer Show – July

Evening Talk and Supper – August

Autumn Show – September

Annual Outing e.g. RHS gardens [not included with the membership fee]

Harvest Supper Party & Talk – October

Christmas Party – December

All exhibits are entered into classes as laid down by RHS standards, judged according to the class standards and prizes awarded.

A new committee has been formed with a big emphasis on keeping this historic society running despite us all living in an electronic and hi-tech era. New members are always welcome and especially the younger members who will become the custodians of the society in years to come. We would particularly like to encourage the new residents of Buxted to come and see what real village life has to offer. So why not come and support this long-standing event, then maybe get more involved.

2018 membership annual subscription is £3.50 [single], £5.00 [couples] and £6.00 [family].

Refreshments are available at all shows together with a raffle.
